About

The Manic Zealots were set up in 1999 by Maz who had been playing the game just a few short weeks. He was soon joined in the squad by his brother Sofu98 who rarely played but provided an organisational and motivational aspect to the squad. Time went by and a few members came and went in quick succession. One member soon joined who would stand by the squad until its death, Riball. He has shown great comitment and still stands tall as the longest serving Manic Zealot to grace the plains.

+"mz"+ began to get a name throughout the TDM arena in Jokers Wild, Doormat and Happy Days. Soon recruiting many more members including many names which although long since gone from the plains of df2, will never be forgotten. +"mz"+ stood tall and played alongside some of the greatest and well known squads ever in df2. Muz/Faz, A/F, , LoE and many more squads were always close by when +"mz"+ were about.

After some time +"mz"+ began to play regular matches and at one point in 2001, everything clicked together as a squad and +"mz"+ became quite successful as a match playing squad. Competing against some of the greatest squads in df2 and winning more often than not. It wasn't about the matches though, MZ had a unique bond which held the squad together through the tough and the great times. One thing that will remain strong in the memory from +"mz"+'s hey day was the defensiveness of the squad if one of their players was attacked. If you attacked one, you attacked all, and more often than not you didn't last.

After 3 years the squad drifted apart, people got new jobs, began college or school and the squad unfortunately became inactive. After not having the time to start the squad up Maz+"mz"+, who adorned the tags anywhere he played, decided that 2007 was the right time. On January 1st 2007 +"mz"+ launched, Samiam a df2 great and well known from the old days, stood alongside Maz as the new era began. As word spread it brought some of the df2 legends out of retirement and most notably brought Riball back into the fold, the ever loyal friend and squad member. Masta from LoE soon joined the squad bringing along a great name and a superb amount of experience. Pose!don, a name in it's own right and a legend alone, became the fifth member. Pose!don was followed by j0ka. , a df2 player who had made a name for himself in recent years. Gill ny, son followed, a friend and squad partner from Samiam and j0ka.'s previous squads. Most recently Pingwing joined from the same squad and brings along a great sence of humour and a very well known name.

We still extend an invite to many of the former members, many of whom are missed greatly, those members still MIA are the following;

Pacman - Superb player but an even better person, was MZ through to his bones and will forever be remembered not just by MZ but the whole of df2.
Skipper - Remembered mostly for his amazing skills with any weapon, but was a true MZ'er and great friend to the squad. Skipper single handedly won many matches we played, still regarded as one of best to grace df2.
TheBlackDuck - Superb player and a great guy, was always there to back up an MZ.
BigTone - One of the funiest guys in df2 and MZ, was great fun to be around. One of two "big" brothers, both missed greatly.
BigC - Brother of BigTone and equally as funny, to have these two guys in the squad was to have a great backbone and great strength.
Venom - A great charecter to be around, was always great fun, probably talked the most rubbish ever but fun noe the less.
Apocalypse - An awsome M4 sniper and Sniper, got us out of many holes when playing matches, won many matches because of the cover he provided.
CobraComnda - Alongside Skipper with one of the greatest players to play df2. CC's tactics were unsurpassable. Top guy, joined towards end of MZ but made a huge impact very quickly.
Fat Tony - Taught many great knifers to knife in the early days of df2. Was a household name in df2 in his day.
IronMan - Played alonside IronMan in a few 2v2 competitions and did pretty well. Always a great charecter and strong m4 skills.
Bait - Providing a great service as a cop, great player and always willing to help out where he could.
CammoSniper - Was our only Australian member, great guy and a top sniper too.
Reppicks Pop - Skippers Dad, he brought some class to MZ after becomming an honorary member. He is still remembered today by many of the df2 greats for the class he brought to the game.

Players who will always be remembered and missed: JJ, Rainman, -jc-, Destroyer, Moose, Hummer, TasteofWar.

A brief fantasy story written by Sofu98 about the beginning of MZ;

Sofu had spent longer than he could remember travelling various landscapes of the DF2 world in search of a clan worthy of his great gunmanship. His tally had risen to an outstanding and unheard of record (as far as I am aware to this day), 98 straight kills without so much as a scratch to his name. All for his conquest to find a worthy leader. He had often considered starting his own clan but did not think any would be worthy of a place beside him on the battlefield.

The day came!

There was a mere five of them to tackle, the odds were in sofu's favour, surley enough one, two, three and four fell (the second and third were knifings). Sofu suddenly dropped to the floor, he had lost sight of the fifth. This had never happened before, sofu crawled to a vantage point to scan the surroundings, he stood for half a second or so...too long. He took a shot to each shoulder disarming him, he slumped to his knees, dropped his head as if his king stood before him waiting to knight him.

After a few moments infront of him stood the fifth, the only match sofu had found, sofu later came to know him as 'Maz'. From the warriors mouth came three solitary words....'rise Manic Zealot'.
